Separate vests from jackets before comparing
A vest leaves your arms uncovered and adds a layer around the torso. A jacket includes sleeves, so its shoulder and sleeve measurements become part of the fit decision. Use the card types to compare like with like.
A padded appearance does not establish insulation type or a temperature rating. A lightweight description is also a catalog label, not a tested weather-performance result. Check composition, lining and care information in the current listing.
Measure with the intended layers in mind
Compare an outer layer you already wear over a similar hoodie or shirt. Note chest width, body length and, for jackets, the sleeve measurement path. The garment method described by UNIQLO is a reference for making consistent comparisons, not a size recommendation for these sellers.
For a vest, inspect the armhole opening as well as the chest. An opening that looks generous in a flat photo may sit differently over a thick sleeve. If the chart leaves that detail out, request a measurement rather than estimating it from a picture.
Prioritise closure and complete views
Look at the front closure, collar, hem and pocket placement for the exact version selected. Prints can hide a zipper line, while a cropped photograph can leave the back completely unknown.
Useful QC views include the full front and back, label and any closure you will use frequently. They can reveal visible differences or defects; they do not establish waterproofing, warmth or long-term wear.
